What Is an IBC Tote?
An Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) is a reusable industrial container designed for the transport and storage of bulk liquid and granulated substances. The most common design consists of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) inner bottle encased in a tubular steel cage, mounted on an integrated pallet base.
IBCs bridge the gap between standard drums (55 gallons) and full tanker loads (5,000+ gallons), making them the ideal choice for mid-volume liquid handling. A standard 275-gallon IBC holds roughly five times more than a drum but takes up only about 48" x 40" of floor space — the same footprint as a single pallet.
These containers are used across virtually every industry: food and beverage processing, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, cosmetics, cleaning products, paints and coatings, and water storage.
